Do not just use lubricating oil at home instead
When many users encounter difficulty in lifting their office chairs, their first reaction is to use cooking oil, baby oil or sewing machine oil at home. On the one hand, they are prone to deterioration under high pressure or sealed environments and cannot form a stable lubricating film; on the other hand, after some oil products evaporate, they will retain grease and absorb dust, which in turn aggravates wear. Are Mineral Greases Suitable?
Mineral grease is a thick, butter-like lubricant that is common in many large mechanical equipment, such as gears and bearings, because these places require lubricants with strong lubrication capabilities and high adhesion.
However, the structure of the air pressure rod of the office chair is different. It has little room to move around and is sealed most of the time. Choose Silicone Lubricant

This type of lubricant is usually in spray form and has good high temperature resistance, pressure resistance and chemical stability. It is not easy to oxidize and corrode the sealing ring, and can form a uniform lubricating film between metal and metal, metal and plastic. At the same time, due to its moderate viscosity, silicone-based lubricant can keep the air pressure rod sliding smoothly without attracting dust like grease.
How To Use Lubricant Correctly?
When using lubricant, you first need to turn the office chair over and stabilize it to expose the exposed part of the air pressure rod. If there is obvious dirt on the outside of the air pressure rod, wipe it with a dry cloth first, and use a small amount of alcohol to clean it if necessary. After spraying, press the seat up and down several times to distribute the lubricant evenly. After completing the lubrication operation, it is recommended to let the chair sit for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the lubricant enough time to adhere to the metal surface and penetrate into the internal gaps, thereby exerting a good lubrication effect. During this period, try to avoid adjusting the height of the chair frequently or violently to prevent the lubricant from being squeezed out or thrown out before it is stable.
There are many types of lubricating products on the market, and their quality varies. Some low-priced lubricants may be mixed with inferior solvents or fillers. These ingredients not only have a short-lived lubricating effect, but also tend to leave oil film spots, produce pungent odors, and even damage metal surfaces and seals after use. In addition, some lubricants do not have good adhesion or heat resistance.
